Beating Retreat Ceremony

  • Beating Ceremony Is A End Of Four Day Long Republic Day Celebration .
  • Beating Ceremony Is Held On 29th January Every year .
  • It takes place at Vijay Chowk every year.
  • ”Beating Retreat” marks a centuries-old military tradition, when the troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms and withdrew from the battlefield and returned to the camps at sunset at the sounding of the Retreat.
  • The ceremony begins with the arrival of the President, Ram Nath Kovind guarded by his well decorated bodyguards.
  • The ceremony witnesses the spectacular performances by the bands of the Indian Armed Forces which includes tunes like “Abide with me”, “Sare Jahan se Achha”, “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Jaa” etc including various other tunes wrapped with the patriotic fervour.
  • Defence forces who come to the capital as a part of Republic Day celebrations are sent back to their barracks by the President, which is what Beating Retreat Ceremony is all about.

History and Importance of Republic Day of India

India Was Ruled By British government Till 15 August 1947 When India Get Freedom From British . With India Freedom , India Was Divided In to two Parts One is India And Another one Is Pakistan . But india Was Still Under Monarch Of British Government And Ele Mountbatten Because At that Time India Did Not Have Own Law or Constitution .

So We Can Say India Was Still Governed By British Law. Now There Was a Urgent Need of India Own Constitution For Which Indian Government Appoint a Drafting Committee Under Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar . This Committee Prepare India Constitution In 2 Year 11 Month And 18 Days .

The committee worked tirelessly for many months and submitted their first draft of the Constitution on November 4, 1947 to the Constituent Assembly. It took exactly 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to finally adopt the Constitution with the necessary amendments.

Though the Constitution of India was adopted on 26 November, 1949 by the Constituent Assembly of India it became was formally made effective on 26 January, 1950.

Reason 

It was during in 1929 during the Indian National Congress’ (INC) Lahore Session that a demand for complete independence was made in the history of India’s freedom struggle from the British rule. This was followed by January 26, 1930 being announced as the Purna Swaraj Diwas (complete Independence Day).

To honour this important day in India’s freedom movement, our Constitution was adopted on January 26, 1950.

 

These are the facts that should know About Indian Republic Day

  • At first, January 26th, 1930 was celebrated as India’s Independence Day or Purna Swaraj Day. This is the day that India decided to fight for full independence.
  • Indian Constitution came into effect (officially into a legal circulation) on 26th of January in 1950, at 10:18 am after which India became a Republic country.
  • The first Republic Day was celebrated three years after Independence Day i.e. 26th January, 1950.
  • Before the Constitution was drafted, India followed British Government’s Government of India Act 1935.
  • Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is known as the father of the constitution because he drafted the constitution.
  • Indian Constitution is only calligraphed and not printed and only 1000 copies are written till date.
  • There are two hand-written copies of the constitution- one in English and the other one in Hindi.
  • The first every Republic Day Parade happened in 1955 at Rajpath.
  • A majority of national awards such as Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan and Kirti Chakra are awarded during the Republic Day ceremony.
  • On Republic Day, 1965, the Hindi language was declared as the national language of India.
  • The chief guest on republic day celebration, 1961 was Queen Elizabeth from Britain.

Important Information 

  • From 7th January 2020 to 25th January 2020 the tickets will be sold at the locations mentioned above from 10 am to 12.30 pm and from 2 pm to 4.30 pm.
  • From 23rd January to 25th January 2020, one ticket counter at Sena Bhavan will remain open till 7 pm.
  • On 23rd January 2020 all ticket counters will open only in the afternoon on account of full Dress Rehearsal.
  • On 26th January 2020 all ticket counters will remain closed on account of Republic Day parade.
